18-year-old from Mokopane battling cancer and severe health complications
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
Good Morning Angels and Valterra Platinum's Bushveld Classic Golf Day assisted 18-year-old Katlego Mokwele and her mom while she battles cancer and other health complications.
Katlego Mokwele is a brave 18-year-old girl from Masodi Village near Mokopane.
Instead of going to school and planning her future after matric with her friends, Katlego has been fighting cancer and other health issues for the past three years.
She was diagnosed with a form of bone cancer in January 2023.
The cancer has spread to her lungs.
She also has a heart condition, which is impacting her treatment and recovery. Katlego needs ongoing chemotherapy and specialist medical care.
She is currently in hospital due to complications with a knee replacement. However, she, her family and her doctors are not giving up.
While the family has medical aid, it does not cover all medical expenses. There are significant shortfalls for specialist consultations, pathology services, hospital costs, transportation to and from treatment facilities, and the special dietary requirements needed to support her recovery.
Safe to say, Katlego and her family need some Angel help!

18-year-old Katlego needs some Angel help as she battles cancer
Katlego Mokwele is an 18-year-old young woman who has been bravely battling serious health challenges since her diagnosis in January 2023.
She has been diagnosed with central osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, which has since spread to her lungs. She is also living with a heart condition, making her treatment and recovery even more challenging. Due to her worsening health, she has been unable to attend school and requires ongoing chemotherapy and specialist medical care.
Katlego is currently hospitalised after complications with a previous knee replacement, and doctors are facing difficulties proceeding with surgery because of her heart condition. Specialists are working to find a suitable anaesthetic option that will allow her to safely undergo the necessary procedure.
While the family has medical aid, it does not cover all medical expenses. There are significant shortfalls for specialist consultations, pathology services, hospital costs, transportation to and from treatment facilities, and the special dietary requirements needed to support her recovery.
The family currently needs approximately R5,100 per month to help cover Katlego’s ongoing medical needs. This includes an estimated R1,000 per month for treatment-related costs and approximately R400 per hospital consultation, in addition to other medical and travel expenses. The family is also facing outstanding medical expenses of approximately R9,000 for pathology and laboratory-related accounts, with further costs still to be determined once all specialist consultations and treatment plans have been finalised.
The recommended treatment is critical, as the cancer has spread, and any delay in receiving care could have life-threatening consequences. Financial difficulties are placing immense pressure on the family and may hinder Katlego’s access to the treatment she urgently needs.
