Assisting women in their battle against breast cancer

Assisting women in their battle against breast cancer

One in 27 women in South Africa will be diagnosed with breast cancer; that's why Jacarada FM's Good Morning Angels assisted Breasties for Life.

The breast cancer statistics are frightening, but until it becomes a reality in your own life, it’s difficult to comprehend the impact.

Some breast cancer facts:

  • Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in the world.
  • All people have breast tissue; it can affect anyone, but it is most common in women.
  • It is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women under 50.
  • More people are surviving the disease than ever before, thanks to advancements in treatment.
  • Early detection remains critically important because it significantly increases survival rates, allows for less intensive treatments, and offers more treatment options.
Liezel's Story

Liezel Ahlers was first diagnosed with breast cancer 15 years ago. She was breastfeeding her youngest of three sons when she noticed a lump.

A nurse advised her that it was probably a swollen milk gland, "because lactating women cannot have breast cancer."

This, however, was a myth - Liezel did have breast cancer.

The cancer returned 10 years later, in a different form, and again six months after that treatment.

Liezel knows breast cancer and what it takes to beat it. Along her journey, she met many women who could not afford the right or best treatment. That's why Liezel joined forces with like-minded people to find solutions and offer help.

That's how Breasties for Life NPO was created, to fight breast cancer through medical screenings, awareness campaigns, emotional support, and treatment assistance.

ORIGINAL REQUEST

Dear Angels,

Let's face it - breasts matter. They matter because they feed babies, make hugs softer, give confidence, and, frankly, because they are a symbol of femininity, strength, and love.

But every day, breast cancer tries to take them, and the incredible women behind them, away from us.
That’s where we step in. And hopefully, where you step in, too.

We at Breasties for Life are on a mission to protect what matters: women, their health, their dignity — and yes, their beautiful breasts.

We fight through medical screenings, awareness campaigns, emotional support, and treatment assistance. But here’s the thing: hope and determination need fuel — and that fuel is generosity.

Your donation will go directly towards:

  • Screenings and early detection — because finding cancer early gives women a real fighting chance.
  • Awareness campaigns — because self-checks should be as routine as checking WhatsApp.
  • Supporting women in treatment — because no one should ever fight cancer alone.

And while we keep it professional, we also believe in laughter — because humour heals too.
We want women to laugh, even while they fight. We want them to feel supported, cherished, and loved.

Imagine a world where every woman can say: "I survived. I'm stronger. And yes, my breasts — and my life — were worth saving."

That’s the world your kindness builds.

So, whether you give the price of a cappuccino, the cost of your Netflix subscription, or the money you keep forgetting to spend on that unused gym contract, please know: every cent goes toward saving lives, protecting women, and keeping futures alive.

Together, we can save more than just breasts.
We can save hope.
We can save dreams.
We can save the women we love.

With gratitude, care, and a smile,
Engela Slabbert
