Celebrating the 85 women living at Irene Homes
Good Morning Angels and the SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane 2026 celebrated the women of Irene Homes with a total donation of R150 000!
Irene Homes has been a haven, especially for women with intellectual disabilities, since 1909.
That is 117 years on the same premises in Irene. Many Centurion residents know Irene Homes for its Charity Shop, but for the 85 live-in residents, as well as several day workers, Irene Homes offers day-care support and skills training, which lead to improved self-awareness, self-growth and job creation.
Irene Homes is a non-profit organisation, so fundraising is always part of what they do.
The Bakery: Irene Homes is currently embarking on a brand-new skills-training and income-generating project: a bakery.
They have started baking sourdough bread and cinnamon rolls, which fly off the shelves.
They have the capacity to develop this into a fully fledged bakery, but they need to meet regulatory certification requirements to turn the bakery into a commercial, income-generating venture.
The income would go a long way towards funding overdue building maintenance and upgrades.
This is where they need assistance with funding.
To achieve compliance, the kitchen must be refurbished with the correct ceilings, tiles, workbenches, appliances, extractors and so much more.
This work will come at an estimated cost of R300 000, a bridge too far.

The SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane will also donate R75 000 towards the Bakery Project. That is a total donation of R100 000!
