Talented fashion designer gets the funds to complete his third-year studies
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
Nkosinathi Immanuel Moyo’s passion for fashion inspired Good Morning Angels and the community to help him realise his dream.
Two years ago, a father stood at a Centurion traffic light holding up a handmade denim skirt. The skirt had been made by his young son from offcut material.
The father was not asking for sympathy and he was not begging. He was showing the world his son, Nkosinathi Immanuel Moyo’s talent and trying to get him into fashion school.
That act led to a wave of kindness across South Africa.
A simple Facebook post by passer-by Lana Brunner went viral.
Donations filled his e-wallet within days. The media picked up the story.
Immanuel was granted a bursary for two years, and so began his journey.
Today, Immanuel is so much more than a third-year fashion student.
He was elected student president and is a mentor and motivator to many students.
He hustles to pay for rent, food and transport, as his very proud parents from Middelburg in Mpumalanga are not in a financial position to support him. Immanuel is the fourth of nine children.
In fact, Immanuel has been sewing, designing and working since Grade 9, altering his own clothes and making garments for his family.
Unfortunately, due to financial hardship, Immanuel’s sponsor is no longer able to fund his final year.
Once again, Lana, the passer-by who helped Immanuel’s dad share his story with the world, has reached out to Good Morning Angels to assist this talented, passionate young designer in finishing his final year.
“Completing this qualification means more than graduating. It means stability, opportunity, and the ability to build a future where fashion creates jobs, honours culture, and opens doors for other young designers who come from limited means,” says Lana.
