Yolandi Holder is a hairdresser from Mbombela and a proud single mother of two children, her daughter in Grade 3 and her six-year-old son, Liam, in Grade 1.

Her husband passed away in 2021 when Liam was just over a year old.

Liam has been struggling at school to hear his teacher and to concentrate in class. His energy levels are also very low.

It has been confirmed that Liam has a growth in his left ear canal that is almost completely blocking his hearing. The canal is also very narrow.

His eardrum and nerves are functioning normally. Liam also suffers from severely blocked sinuses, which make it extremely difficult for him to breathe through his nose. This affects his sleep, energy levels and overall wellbeing.

The solution is an operation in which both of these issues can be resolved, but it comes at a cost of just under R60 000.

Yolandi does not have medical aid and simply cannot afford the surgery Liam urgently needs, according to his doctors.

That is why a local motorcycle club and friends reached out to Good Morning Angels to help raise the funds needed for Liam to breathe, hear and thrive again.

Liam is turning seven on Sunday, 29 March.

ORIGINAL REQUEST:

Please help Liam breathe, hear and thrive like every child deserves.

My name is Yolandi, and I am the proud mother of a brave little boy named Liam Holder.

Liam is six years old and will be turning seven on 29 March. He is a gentle, loving child with a beautiful spirit, curious, kind and eager to learn. Like every parent, my greatest wish is to see my child healthy, comfortable and able to enjoy a normal childhood.

Unfortunately, Liam is currently facing serious medical challenges that affect his breathing and hearing, and he urgently needs surgery.

What Liam is going through

Liam suffers from severely blocked sinuses, which make it extremely difficult for him to breathe through his nose. Despite being on medication to assist with airflow, he still struggles daily and is forced to breathe mostly through his mouth. This affects his sleep, energy levels and overall wellbeing.

In addition, Liam has a growth in his left ear canal that is almost completely blocking his hearing. Because of this, he struggles to hear properly at school and must sit very close to his teacher just to follow lessons and concentrate. This has had a significant impact on his learning and development.

The surgery he needs

Liam needs to undergo two procedures during the same operation:

  • Surgery to open up his sinuses, allowing him to breathe properly
  • Canalplasty on his left ear to remove the growth and restore his hearing

These procedures are essential, not optional, for Liam to breathe freely, hear clearly and thrive both physically and academically.

Why we need help

As a family, we do not have medical aid, and the cost of the surgery, hospital fees and specialist care is far beyond what we can manage on our own.

Asking for help does not come easily, but we are reaching out to our community with humble hearts, hoping for support to give Liam the chance every child deserves, to breathe easily, hear clearly and learn without struggle.

From our family to yours

We are deeply grateful for any support, whether through a donation or by sharing Liam’s story. Your kindness gives us hope and reminds us that we are not alone.

Thank you for helping our little boy breathe, hear and grow into the child he is meant to be.

With heartfelt thanks,
Liam’s family
