Childline Gauteng has been a lifeline to children in distress for 38 years. It began in 1987 as a basic telephone service operating with just two telephone lines and two volunteers.

The need was so great that Childline Gauteng has grown into an organisation operating from seven community-based centres, where an average of 600 calls are received per day.

Children of all ages call for help on 116, and Childline Gauteng responds with a wide range of services, free of charge.

Childline Gauteng relies on the community for funding and volunteering, as the service costs around R13 per call.

They also provide numerous other interventions and services to support children and families in need.

The prevalence of violence affecting children in South Africa is staggerin.

According to a 2018 report by the Children's Institute at UCT, 80% of boys and 87% of girls have witnessed or experienced violence in the home by the time they are teenagers.

Childline Gauteng has now reached out to Good Morning Angels and our Jacaranda FM listeners and supporters to help them keep the lines open.
