Helping 18-year-old from Dullstroom manage debilitating epilepsy
Eighteen-year-old Chrissie Scott is a talented young artist from Dullstroom in Mpumalanga who has been living with debilitating epilepsy for the past eight years.

On 1 July 2026, we met 18-year-old Chrissie, a young artist from Dullstroom in Mpumalanga.
She has been suffering from debilitating epilepsy for the past eight years.
Good Morning Angels assisted the family with R50,000 towards the medical care and medication Chrissie needs.
One of those needs is an MRI scan, which can cost up to R18,000.
Maine Radiology is already in the process of making arrangements to do Chrissie's MRI free of charge.
Chrissie also needs oxygen to recover after epileptic seizures.
Our friends at ESAB South Africa have already delivered an oxygen machine for Chrissie, valued at more than R85,000.
Chrissie Scott’s art is the one place where she feels safe, happy and free.
She had to stop attending school after Grade 7 because, on bad days, she can experience more than five epileptic seizures.
Online schooling is also not an option, as she has to avoid screen time.
Chrissie lives with her mum, Jen, her nine-year-old sister and her grandmother. Her mum works full-time to provide for the family, while her gran stays at home with Chrissie.
Chrissie has been treated by several state and private doctors, without much progress in bringing her condition under control. The next step is an MRI scan and a consultation with a new neurologist in Pretoria. The medication that has been prescribed is very expensive, with no guarantee of improvement.
Jen does not earn enough to afford medical aid, and the cost of treating Chrissie’s condition is simply too much for her to cover.
That is why Roxanne, a member of their Bible study group, put together a fundraiser and reached out to Good Morning Angels.
“Chrissie is a talented artist with a beautiful soul who is living with severe epilepsy. Her seizures impact every part of her life, but her strength, creativity and hope continue to shine,” says Roxanne.
The MRI alone will cost R18 000. There are also travel and specialist costs, as well as at least R2 500 per month for one of her medications.

I am Roxanne from Dullstroom. We love listening to Jacaranda FM in our little town!
I would like to request assistance for a family I love, specifically for a young woman named Chrissie. She has just turned 18 and had to stop attending school due to the severe epilepsy she has experienced for the past eight years.
Every time she is hospitalised, there is a different doctor on duty, and she has never had consistency of care in the state system. She has been on several medications, but her epilepsy is not under control at all. On some days, she can have more than five fits, which leave her exhausted and bruised.
This has taken a huge emotional and mental toll on her. While she watches her school friends move on with their lives, she remains stuck in this very difficult cycle.
Her mum, Jen, managed to arrange a consultation with a neurologist at Milpark Hospital. He conducted an EEG and found the wave patterns in her brain to be very unusual. He recommended a three-day EEG sleep study and an MRI to determine exactly what is happening in her brain and how it can be treated.
Staying near the hospital will also form part of the expenses. They estimate the total cost to be R50 000, excluding the cost of any treatment plan.
