New 'legs' for Pieter Botha living without his own legs or sight

Jacaranda FM's Good Morning Angels and Valterra Platinum – Mogalakwena Mine have come together to assist 37-year-old Pieter Botha with R100,000 for his prosthetic leg upgrades and other medical costs.

Pieter Botha from Mokopane is the kind of person whose glass is always half-full.

Born with club feet and glaucoma in both eyes, Pieter's legs were amputated below the knees at age 18, and by 19 he had lost his sight completely. He now lives with his parents, who are SASSA pensioners.

Although Pieter does not have a job, he refuses to wait for others to help him or feel sorry for him. He walks up to 7 kilometres a day, does Park Runs with his sister, and joins in any activity that comes his way, whether on his prosthetic limbs or his stumps.

"If you have legs, you have to use them," says Pieter.

Recently, Pieter began raising funds to upgrade his prosthetic legs.

The upgrades cost R57,000—an amount far beyond his and his parents’ means. With determination, Pieter sold raffle tickets and koeksisters, managing to raise an impressive R40,000 towards the goal.

Inspired by Pieter's resilience, someone in the Mokopane community reached out to Good Morning Angels to support this everyday hero who never gives up.
