26-year-old's road to recovery uncertain after devastating car crash
Jacaranda FM's Good Morning Angels Fund assisted Antoinette Massyn with R25,000 towards equipment and the treatments Angie needs as she recovers at home. We also donated another R50,000 towards some of the outstanding medical bills. That is assistance to the total value of R75,000.
26-year-old fitness instructor, Angelica (or Angie) Ferreira, was driving home after dropping her friend off after Innibos when her life changed in the blink of an eye.
Her car wreck was spotted next to the road by a driver who called the police. Angie's car was towed away from the scene, but she wasn't in it.
Some 10 hours later, a passerby, Xolani Mthembu, spotted a spare wheel and then a car jack in the grass next to the road as he was walking home from church. Then he saw Angie lying six metres away on her stomach in the grass behind a tree.

He checked her pulse and couldn’t believe that she was alive, as it was extremely cold the night before. Xolani called for help. Angie spent several days in the state hospital, where she was stabilised but still in a coma.
She was then transferred to a private rehab facility. Her mother, Antoinette, says that with the help of friends, family and members of the community, they could pay some of the R300,000 cost for three months, as Angie does not have medical aid.
Now Angie is home with her parents in Barberton, where she will most probably stay for some time to come. The road to recovery is long and uncertain, and Antoinette is struggling to keep up with all the expenses.
They had to train and employ a daytime carer to stay with Angie while they are at work. Antoinette also trained and looks after Angie at night.
They still need some home care equipment. Angie has to receive rehab treatment, and there is still about R100,000 in unpaid bills.
That is why several people who know Angie and Antoinette wrote to Good Morning Angels for assistance.

I know Angie, and she is such a lovely young lady with a bright future ahead of her. You do not come across many stories like Angie’s. She survived a massive car accident on 6 July 2025. After her car was towed away, they could not find her. Someone found her 10 hours later, still alive, at the accident scene.
