Ngwana Babyhouse in Polokwane opened its doors to abandoned babies 19 years ago in 2006.

To this day, it remains the only baby care home in the province of Limpopo dedicated to the care of abandoned babies from newborn to the age of two.

The house mother and manager for the past 15 years, Sandra Jansen van Rensburg, says Ngwana Babyhouse is registered to accommodate 28 children, and they are always at capacity.

The children are all referred to Ngwana by the state, and Sandra travels all over the province to collect her new little residents.

"These children cannot speak for themselves; it is my job to speak for them," says Sandra.

"We try to find loving homes for our children wherever we can. If they are adoptable, we do our best to place them with loving parents."

Ngwana Babyhouse receives a subsidy from the state, but they always have to fundraise as they operate with a monthly shortfall of R45,000.

Recently, they've had to dip into their emergency funds to pay for urgent training for all 17 staff members.

This follows a new regulatory requirement for all staff to complete professional childcare training by year-end, at R10,500 per person.

If the training is not completed, the home may be forced to shut down, leaving 28 babies without a safe place to go, in a province where no alternatives exist.

That's why Danietha and Jo-Ane Pieterse, along with Rossouw Roux, reached out to Good Morning Angels for assistance.

To Whom It May Concern,

Good Morning Angels,

This morning, I write to you not just as a supporter of charitable causes, but as a parent and community member moved by the initiative of two remarkable 13-year-olds from Laerskool Pietersburg Oos.

Through their involvement in a school initiative, these learners were introduced to one of Polokwane’s most critical and under-resourced NPOs — Ngwana Babyhouse, the only baby care home in Limpopo dedicated to abandoned babies aged 0–24 months.

While the learners’ involvement is part of a time-bound school campaign, the needs of Ngwana Babyhouse are urgent and ongoing.

Ngwana Babyhouse, in particular, is facing a crisis.

Despite their tireless work, the home currently faces:

  • A monthly budget shortfall of R45,000
  • A desperate need for renovations (including two bathrooms and a fully functioning kitchen)
  • A shortage of basic necessities: baby formula, nappies, clothing, and cleaning supplies
  • And most urgently, a regulatory requirement for all 17 staff members to complete professional childcare training by year-end — at R10,500 per person

This totals R178,500. The Babyhouse has already dipped into its emergency medical fund to train seven staff members, placing them at further financial risk.

The implications are heartbreaking: if the training is not completed, the home may be forced to shut down, leaving 28 vulnerable babies without a safe place to go — in a province where no alternatives exist.

As a donor, business leader, or community partner, your support can be the reason this home stays open.

Ngwana Babyhouse is more than a shelter. It is a sanctuary — the first home, first love, and first safety many of these abandoned babies have ever known.

I appeal to Good Morning Angels and all compassionate South Africans: Please help us keep these doors open. Whether through sponsorships, once-off donations, or partnerships to fund staff training or renovations, your involvement could change the trajectory of these children's lives.

If you would like more details, a site visit can be arranged, or financial documents can be provided to show the exact needs.

Let’s answer the call for the smallest among us.

With sincere gratitude,

Danietha Pieterse
