Woman who assists animals in underprivileged areas in need of help

Jacaranda FM's Good Morning Angels assisted All-in-One Animal Rescue to buy materials and build much-needed kennels, as well as provide food and other supplies for the dogs and cats in her care, to the value of R50,000!

Mary Kwembu started her professional life as a certified, qualified cheesemaker.

She later went into catering for a number of years — but then, she found her real passion: helping dogs and cats in need.

In 2018, inspired by her then two-year-old daughter’s love of animals, Mary founded All-in-One Animal Rescue in Diepsloot.

She would drive around, bring food to an area, and invite pet owners to collect some food, while she talked to them about animal health, looking after their dogs and cats, and teaching the importance of sterilisation.

Mary quickly became known in the community, and people would call her if they saw an abused, abandoned, or stray animal.

She has also organised several sterilisation drives in the Diepsloot community to help pet owners have their animals sterilised.

Mary does all of this work through donations only — that is her sole source of funding.

She currently has 60 dogs in her care.

It is a no-kill rescue facility, and she tries to find new homes for as many of the dogs as possible.

She is in great need of proper kennels, but she cannot use the funds meant for food and sterilisation for this purpose.

That's why one of her volunteers and supporters, Daleen van Zyl, asked Good Morning Angels for some assistance.

ORIGINAL REQUEST

Dear Friends at Good Morning Angels,

At All-in-One Animal Rescue, our mission is simple yet powerful: to care for neglected, abused, and surrendered cats and dogs. We are a no-kill rescue organisation because we believe every animal deserves a second chance at life.

The founder, Mary Kwembu, has dedicated her heart and soul to improving the lives of animals in Diepsloot. With unwavering compassion, she not only rescues vulnerable pets but also educates children and the community about responsible pet ownership.

The community learns compassion and responsibility through Mary’s hard work. She has two children and a partner. She does not have much, but gives everything to her community.

Through feeding schemes, blanket donations, and continuous sterilisation drives, Mary works tirelessly to break the cycle of neglect and overpopulation.

We urgently need public support to continue this lifesaving work. As Mary had to move from her previous premises, she needs to rebuild the kennels for the rescue dogs in her care, as she could not move the old ones.

Here's how your contribution can make a difference:

  • Building materials, labour, and services — for constructing new kennels to better accommodate the dogs, as she had to relocate the rescue from the previous premises. (Items needed: 1.8m strong welded mesh — 3 rolls of 30m each; 25 steel poles; 3 gates; cement and paving materials.)
  • Whether it’s a financial donation, supplies, or volunteer services, your support gives these animals a chance at a happy, safe future.

Please consider this plea.

With heartfelt gratitude,
All-in-One Animal Rescue
(Plot 40, Du Toit Street, Timsrand, Centurion)
