RecruitMyMom: Connecting businesses with experienced talent
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
RecruitMyMom was founded in 2012 by Phillipa Geard, a South African entrepreneur who identified a growing gap in the workforce.
After transitioning from a senior corporate role to focus on her family, Geard observed that many highly skilled professionals, particularly mothers, were leaving the workplace due to limited flexible employment opportunities.
At the same time, businesses were seeking experienced talent but often did not require full-time roles.
RecruitMyMom was established to bridge this gap by connecting businesses with professionals seeking flexible and meaningful work.
What began as a focused recruitment solution has grown into a specialist business serving companies across South Africa and internationally.
RecruitMyMom places professionals in permanent, contract, freelance and fractional roles, including part-time, remote and hybrid arrangements. These placements range from operational roles to executive-level positions, allowing businesses to access expertise in a way that aligns with their operational needs.
Today, RecruitMyMom services clients across South Africa and internationally, including Africa, Europe, the United States and Australia. The business has grown and continues to expand its reach through technology and flexible workforce solutions.
As the business grew, Phillipa needed to assess her own hiring strategy. Her advice to other business owners is:
"You cannot do everything yourself, even when you think you can. For years I tried to hold too much in my own hands, especially as the business grew and technology became more important. At some point, you have to accept that you are not just running a service, you are building a system. That means bringing in the right people before you feel ready."
Looking Ahead
As workforce trends continue to evolve, RecruitMyMom remains focused on connecting businesses with experienced professionals and supporting flexible employment opportunities.
With a growing talent network and expanding international footprint, the company continues to play a role in helping organisations build adaptable, future-ready teams.
Pavlo’s growth tip for the week echoes Phillipa’s advice: hire smart, not big.
Many business owners wait too long to bring in help because they believe the next step must be a full-time hire. The smarter approach is to bring in experienced talent on a part-time or contract basis first. This provides skills, flexibility and control, and supports building a business that runs with you, not because of you.
RecruitMyMom forms part of South Africa’s Future 50, a platform that highlights businesses contributing to economic growth and employment through practical solutions.
This Future50 feature was presented by Pavlo Phitidis from Aurik and powered by FNB Business.
