Kagiso Media Hunger Relief Fund: Walezi Foundation, Ennerdale
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
Walezi Foundation, Ennerdale received R12 500 in AngelRands from Kagiso Media and Jacaranda FM.
Background: Kagiso Media, owners of Jacaranda FM and East Coast Radio have put together the KM Hunger Relief Fund to assist communities in need during the drawn out Covid-19 lockdown in South Africa. The most basic need remains food. Over the next two weeks, Jacaranda FM will give a platform to four organisations per day, who actively work within afflicted communities to feed the thousands of families who currently cannot earn a living. We want to know who these community Angels are and how our listener community can assist them. Jacaranda FM will also equally distribute R500 000,00 from the Kagiso Media Hunger Relief Fund to these organisations in the form of AngelRands.
We will publish the details of each organisation on www.jacarandafm.com so you can contact them and donate directly to assist the essential work they do.
Organisation: Walezi Foundation, Ennerdale
Contribution: R12 500 in AngelRands
Walezi Foundation serves the communities of Ennerdale, Kapok, Hopefield, Lawley, Finetown and the Ext 4 Informal area. From January to date, Walezi, in conjunction with Meals on Wheels, has prepared and delivered over 22-thousand-751 hot, cooked meals to the poorest of the poor.
The need is growing by the day: in April we supplied 4950 meals, in May this more than doubled to 11 732.
Finetown/Lawley has been battling with poverty leading to drug addiction among our children, causing violence and breaking up of families. Over the past few years, shacks have developed around the area leading to an over-populated community. Hunger is one of the many social issues we face in our country and local communities especially during these dire times. The feeding scheme is a great help to children, the elderly, and families. We kindly request donations of any kind… with winter here we hope to also buy blankets, scarfs, gloves, and beanies. We have only been able to give out food parcels for families of our feeding schemes once since the lockdown due to lack of funding. With more support, we can support more people.
