A mountain climb that turned into a rescue mission

SA Rescue: Out Alive is an exciting new South African podcast from Jacaranda FM’s sister station, East Coast Radio, sharing true stories of people who made it out alive when everything was against them.

The first episode tells the gripping story of two climbers stranded high on a mountain near the KwaZulu-Natal border. They were just 30 metres into their descent from the summit when their ropes jammed. Temperatures dropped. And getting down became far more dangerous than getting up.

As darkness closed in, they were left exposed on the rock face, with no clear way to safety.

These rescuers are volunteers. They leave their homes and families, often in the middle of the night, and climb into the dark, cold and storm to reach people they have never met.
