Study reveals that 'men are gold diggers too'
A study says gold digging is "often stereotyped as female behaviour", but it is not limited to women.

The musicians famously recorded a song in 2005 called 'Gold Digger,' which highlights how women use wealthy men to improve their lives.
"Eighteen years, eighteen years/ She got one of your kids, got you for eighteen years/ I know somebody payin' child support for one of his kids/ His baby mama car and crib is bigger than his," West raps.
However, it might be time for a remix about male gold diggers. The song was referenced in a recent study published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences.
The study found that men also pursue relationships for financial gain.
"Gold digging, often stereotyped as female behaviour, is in fact not limited to women," the study stated.
A total of 105 men and 236 women aged around 30 were surveyed for the study, which examined the individual characteristics of gold diggers.
Some questions asked them to choose between a 'wealthy, faithful partner' and a 'faithful partner with limited financial stability'.
Some of the key findings were:
- While men and women are both gold diggers, women scored the highest overall.
- Mid-left non-heterosexual women scored higher than heterosexual women
- Non-heterosexuals and political leftists scored higher than heterosexuals, political centrists, and right-wingers
The study, which was carried out by scientists Lennart Freyth and Peter K. Jonason, also found that gold-digging in both sexes has a strong link to psychopathy and narcissism.
"First, gold diggers do not only prefer resourceful partners, they trade-off characteristics of a happy relationship to extract resources from their partner," Freyth told PsyPost.
"Second, gold digging is strongly linked to psychopathy, which confirms the reckless component mentioned in pop culture."
The scientists found that female gold diggers were also sadistic.
“Third, there are linked factors, like big cities, being a student, being non-heterosexual, and high self-described mate value, which do not differ between men and women (except for female students scored higher than males),” Freyth added.
The study also found that gold-digging is an "exploitative mating strategy beyond a simple preference for resourceful partners".
