Is training like a firefighter Hollywood's new weight loss trend?
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
Lauren Sánchez Bezos has revealed that her prep for the 2026 Met Gala included intense training with firefighters.
When it comes to weight loss, celebrities are always obsessed with the latest 'it' method, and Lauren Sánchez Bezos might have just uncovered the next big trend.
The former journalist was one of the A-list attendees at the Met Gala on Monday.
Sanchez and her billionaire husband, Jeff Bezos, were the lead sponsors of the 2026 gala, reportedly forking out over $10 million.
Vogue's Anna Wintour has chaired the Met Gala since 1995. She co-chaired this year's event with singer Beyoncé, tennis star Venus Williams and Australian actress Nicole Kidman.
Sanchez walked the red carpet in a midnight blue Schiaparelli dress. The satin dress featured a corset bodice that highlighted her slim figure.
Speaking to Vogue magazine, the 56-year-old says her prep for the biggest night in fashion included a unique form of training.
"I went to visit the New York Fire Department and did their training," she said.
"It’s probably the most unique Met prep ever.”
Sanchez reveals that the intense training included "donning gear, crawling through a smoke-filled obstacle course, and practising how to save a life".
She says the training was "bananas" but loved it. "I probably lost about two pounds [one kilogram] doing it."
Lauren's training with the New York Fire Department was for a charitable cause, not specifically to burn fat. We are sure she is, no doubt, pleased with the weight-loss side effects.
If there is one thing that gets Hollywood excited, it's a potential weight loss trend.
Who can forget Kim Kardashian's controversial appearance at the 2022 Met Gala, where she famously wore Marilyn Monroe's 'Happy Birthday' dress.
The reality star revealed she had to lose 7kg to fit into the dress.
"I would wear a sauna suit twice a day, run on the treadmill, completely cut out all sugar and all carbs, and just eat the cleanest veggies and protein. I didn't starve myself, but I was so strict," she said.
Lauren Sánchez's firefighter training
We'd take firefighter training over Kardashian's extreme method any day.
That isn't to say that the intense training is a walk in the park. Think of it as a Zumba class or Taebo on steroids.
There is a reason firemen are among the highlights of the annual Cape Town Carnival. Seriously, two words: sizzling hot.
Firefighters push their bodies to the limit during training and must remain in tip-top shape to do their jobs.
Lauren spent just one day with New York's bravest and quickly found out that "they do not mess around.
"It gave me a very small glimpse into the strength, discipline, and courage firefighters bring to their work," she said.
"In honor of International Firefighters’ Day on May 4th, thank you to firefighters everywhere for your service," she said.
