With the festive season approaching and spring well underway, many South Africans are cooling down and quenching their thirst with several drinks.

Gin and tonic has been enjoyed by people from all over the world for centuries.

It dates back to the 1700s when there was an outbreak of malaria in India. History states that George Cleghorn, a Scottish doctor, discovered that quinine, a flavour component of tonic water, could be used to treat malaria, but sadly, many people did not enjoy the taste. To solve the problem, tonic water was mixed with gin, sugar, and lime. That is how gin and tonics began.
