Heritage Day, or Braai Day, is a day when scores of South Africans come together to celebrate through food, family and, of course, a good braai.

Whether you’re braaing wors or chicken, paired with chakalaka or potato salad, braai has become an important part of our heritage as South Africans.
This Heritage Day, Big Save is hoping to help South Africans claim a Guinness World Record title for the most people braaing simultaneously.

Up to 3,000 people from different parts of the country are expected to take part in the massive braai event.

This will be the second time an event of this nature is held. In 2025, a similar attempt was made, but South Africa did not secure the title.

It is understood that one of the reasons the previous attempt was unsuccessful was because some participants did not remain at their allocated braai stations for the required duration, which is one of the requirements set by Guinness World Records.

This year, organisers are hoping to get it right and make history.

The event will also feature live performances from artists including Zaan Sonnekus, Ben Rodrigues, Lady Zamar, Matthew Mole and Shekhinah, among many others.

Apart from the entertainment, food will be sold and there will be other fun activities to do. Tickets for the event are R255 and can be bought here.

The participants tickets include a portion of wors to braai, a bread roll, a portion of pap, a pair of tongs, a branded apron and access to a pre-lit braai station. The tongs and branded apron can also be kept after the event.

The braai will start at 10am, and participants must remain at their allocated braai stations for the required duration as the record attempt takes place.

With thousands of South Africans expected to gather around the fire, this could be one Heritage Day celebration worth watching. If successful, South Africa could add another Guinness World Record title to its name — all while doing what we do best: braaing!
