A record 26,3 million South Africans are registered to vote for their party of choice in the 2016 Local Government Elections.

South Africans go to the polls on August 3.

Launching the National Results Operation Centre (ROC) at the Tshwane Events Centre, IEC chair Glen Mashanini told the audience that the robust engagement between political parties ahead of the election is a sign of a maturing democracy.

"They must understand that we have systems that have optimum integrity, said Mashanini.

The EFF has already warned that it would not tolerate a situation similar to 2014, when black bags containing ballot papers were found dumped in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg.

Mashanini, however, believes there are enough safeguards to ensure that the election results accurately reflect the will of the people.

"The election is not conducted by these commissioners sitting here, of the senior management among us. It is those 200 000 South Africa citizens who actually rise to their national duty," said Mashanini.
