Mandoza's family addresses rumours of fraud

Concert organiser and the man responsible for the Thank You SABC concert, Mzwakhe Mbuli has lashed out at members of the media during a press conference on Tuesday.

This comes after reports surfaced in weekend newspapers that the Mandoza's family is "up in arms" and allegedly fired the late kwaito star's manager for trying to defraud their estate.


Mzwakhe Mbuli told journalists that the Mandoza family was compelled to go public with his illness due to rumours that circulate on social media where after Mandoza chose to perform at Orlando Stadium despite his illness.


He also said that Mandoza was the only one paid in full at the time of the concert due to his urgent health issues.


"He wanted to show South Africans that he was alive and well amid the rumours that he had already died," Mbuli said.


He also criticised the media for reporting on the rumours and so "killing" Mandoza when he was still in good spirits.


"It just so happens that he passed on shortly after the concert," Mbuli said.

Mzwakhe Mbuli explained that at no point was Mandoza's health put in jeopardy and that the media had blown everything out of proportion.


Mandoza's wife, Mpho Tshabalala also told the media that the reports that her late husband's estate was defrauded are not true.


"People who know me would know that I don't like doing things in the public eye. Please lay off my husband's name and let him rest in peace," Mpho said tearfully.


Mpho added that she was upset after the weekend newspaper reports seeing that she is still in a mourning period a month after her husband died of cancer.


Music industry bosses also denied that they had received a letter from Mandoza's family claiming royalties from his hit song, Nkalakatha.


They also reiterated that there are programmes in place to assist the family of artists who pass on, in terms of royalties.
