"In order to maintain discipline within the organisation, the ANC Gauteng Provincial Working Committee (PWC) took a decision to suspend the membership of ANC MPL and Provincial Executive Committee member comrade Molebatsi Bopape with immediate effect," says the ANC's Nkenke Kekana.

Bopape made headlines after Gauteng Premier David Makhura ordered a forensic investigation into allegations of misconduct, maladministration and corruption in the provincial department of sport, arts, culture and recreation while Bopape was MEC.

She has since been removed as MEC in a provincial cabinet reshuffle.

"Her suspension is related to her conduct at the Gauteng Provincial Legislature on the 29th and 30th of September 2016 respectively which amounted to her undermining the political authority of the ANC Caucus of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature and its leadership," Kekana said.

This comes after Bopape reportedly broke ranks and hit out at Makhura, saying she would spill the beans on the real reason she was fired.

The ANC in the province says Bopape's suspension means she cannot represent and/or speak on behalf of the ANC in any capacity until the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings against her.

"All the facts about her misconduct will be presented to the Provincial Disciplinary Committee (PDC) for a determination to be made."
