Gauteng premier to visit R41 horror crash survivors
Gauteng Premier David Makhura will on Saturday visit the two survivors of Friday's horrific crash on the R41 in Randfontein, west of Johannesburg.
The collision between a taxi and a truck claimed the lives of 14 people.
The Premier will be accompanied by MEC for Community Safety Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, MEC for Health Qedani Mahlangu and acting MEC for Roads and Transport Barbara Creecy.
The Department of Transport says it's concerned with the number of accidents involving public transport vehicles.
Transport minister Dipuo Peters has instructed the Road Traffic Management Corporation and the Road Accident Fund to investigate the crash and assist the injured as well as the families of the deceased.
Transport ministry spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi says: "The high number of road carnages remain a concern to government."
Gauteng traffic police spokesperson Obed Sibasa says twelve of the deceased were travelling in the taxi.
The truck driver was also killed in the crash.
The R41 was closed for several hours as paramedics and forensics worked to clear the scene.
