Gauteng Premier visits Tembisa following tornado
Updated | By Samkele Maseko
Gauteng Premier David Makhura and Ekhuruleni Executive Mayor Mondli Gungubele visited Tembisa Wednesday morning.
A tornado caused extensive damage to the Phumulani Mall in and surrounding areas.
Makhura commended the work done by the metro in helping the community to restore their lives.
Premier Makhura says it's a miracle that no one died during the tornado.
Makhura says the provincial government, along with the metro, will do its best to help rebuild destroyed houses and shacks.
He says it's going to take some time before the area can return to normal.
"A lot of shacks were destroyed. We are helping them to rebuild. As I said to the people there we can't say you will have houses tomorrow. This is an emergency intervention. We are helping them to rebuild their shacks. I want to convey my deepest gratitude to the city in terms of how it responded to this disaster," Makhura said.
The premier added that four ambulances along with the Tembisa hospital were affected.
Some community members couldn't be transported or receive medical assistance at the facility.
