Injured woman rescued from mountain after two days
Updated | By Maidi Monareng
A 50 year-old woman has been rescued after spending two nights stuck on a mountain in Limpopo.
Martha Thobejane slipped and broke her ankle while she and two others went to cut grass at the Lekgalametse Nature Reserve on Sunday.
The police's search-and-rescue and K9 units as well as emergency services rescued the woman from Matloulela on Tuesday.
Limpopo police spokesperson Ronel Otto says the cloudy weather condition made it impossible for the air wing to access the area immediately after being alerted to the woman stranded on the mountain.
"The rescue mission took an entire day. The terrain was at times so difficult and the team was forced to carry her on their backs," Otto said.
She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
