Maimane: Zuma must face prosecution
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
DA leader Mmusi Maimane says President Jacob Zuma must be charged.
This comes after the North Gauteng High Court found that the 2009 decision to drop corruption charges against President Jacob Zuma was "irrational".
The matter was brought by the DA, who wanted then prosecutions boss Mokotedi Mpshe's decision to be reversed.
Deputy Judge President Aubrey Ledwaba on Friday set aside the former National Prosecuting Authority boss' decision to discontinue the prosecution of Zuma on 783 charges of corruption.
"Mr Zuma should face the charges as outlined in the indictment," Ledwaba said.
Ledwaba had some hard words for Mpshe.
"Considering the situation in which he found himself, Mr Mpshe ignored the importance of the oath of office which demanded him to act independently and without fear and favour," he said.
Maimane was in court on Friday and delighted at the decision.
"Today is a great victory for the rule of law. We believe Zuma must face prosecution. This judgment affirms the view we've always had," he says.
