Mandla Mandela takes fourth wife
Updated | By ANA
Mandla Mandela has tied the knot in a Muslim ceremony in Cape Town at the weekend.
The grandson of former president Nelson Mandela confirmed his union to Rabia Clarke of Cape Town on Twitter on Sunday evening and issued a brief statement.
“I am honoured and delighted to announce my marriage to Rabia Clarke, in Cape Town, on 6 February 2016,” he said in the statement.
“I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Rabia’s parents, her extended family, and the Muslim community, for welcoming me into their hearts. Although Rabia and I were raised in different cultural and religious traditions, our coming together reflects what we have in common – We are South Africans,” he said.
According to Channel Islam International, Mandela, the traditional chief of the Mvezo, converted to Islam about two months ago.
The nikkah (ceremony) was said to be held at a masjid (place of worship) in Kensington on Saturday morning.
