Strike could threaten fuel supply
Updated | By MornéJK
Fuel truck drivers were expected to go on strike on Thursday after officially declaring a wage dispute that could potentially threaten the fuel supply countrywide.
The trade union Ceppwawu said negotiations with employers had failed, leading to the industrial action.
The union says this will affect workers at depots, refineries and transfer facilities who will take part in the strike.
And speaking in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, said parties must find middle ground that meets both the requirements of the company and workers.
Ceppwawu has confirmed that its members have kicked off their nation wide strike with the strike that would primarily affect refineries and fuel depots.
Ceppwawu's Clement Chitja says their 15 000 members demanded a 9 % salary increase while employers only offered 6.5 %.
