Trains collide on East Rand

At least one person has been confirmed dead and more than 50 others injured, following a collision between two Metrorail trains near the Kaalfontein station in Esselen Park on the East Rand.
Ekhuruleni EMS' William Ntladi says emergency services are on scene to treat the injured.
"Apparently two trains were travelling on the same line going in opposite directions. There was a head-on collision. We've got scores of patients, most of them priority three's. They are walking patients," says Ntladi.
Metrorail's Lilian Mofokeng says they have not yet established how many commuters were on board.
"For now, information is still sketchy. We are prioritising to ensure that all commuters on board the train and personnel are taken care of," says Mofokeng.
EMER-G-MED's Max Cohen says one person has been declared dead and is trapped in the wreckage.
"At this stage it is estimated that upwards of 50 passengers have sustained minor to moderate injuries," says Cohen.
