WATCH: Lily Mine Collapse - One week later
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
Explosives were flown in by helicopter overnight to assist the rescue team desperate to reach the three trapped workers at the Lily Mine in Barberton that collapsed on Friday.
Families and mine management remain hopeful that the three workers, Pretty Nkambule, Yvonne Mnisi and Solomon Nyerede, will survive this week long ordeal.
At 8:15am it was exactly a week since the ground beneath the lamp room container collapsed, trapping the three underground.
The search and rescue operation has been described as a roller coaster with many highs and lows.
There was elation last Friday when the 87 mineworkers who were underground during the collapse were brought safely to surface, but turned to devastation when everyone realised three people were unaccounted for.
On Sunday there was another high when the first sounds were heard, believed to be communication from the container. It became silent over the days that followed.
Media were again briefed by operations manager Mike Begg...
