WEATHER: Severe thunderstorms in Gauteng

The SA Weather Service has issued a warning of severe thunderstorms with strong winds, heavy rain and possible large hail that are expected over parts of Gauteng and the North West Province.

Disruptive snowfalls are also expected over parts of KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape as well as the Free State.


Gauteng: Cloudy and cold with widespread showers and thundershowers.

Mpumalanga: Cloudy with fog patches and drizzle along the eastern high ground, where it will be cold, otherwise cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers but widespread in the western Highveld.Isolated showers and thundershowers are possible by afternoon.

Limpopo: Cloudy and cool with fog patches and drizzle along the eastern and northern high grounds, otherwise scattered showers and thundershowers are expected but isolated in the east.

North West: Cloudy and cold with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated in the west where it will be partly cloudy.


Rustenburg: 03 / 16


Free State: Cold in the north, otherwise cloudy and very cold with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers but isolated in the west where it will be partly cloudy. Snowfalls expected over the east and south.

Northern Cape: Cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south and west, otherwise partly cloudy and cold, but very cold over the southern highground with light snow possible on the mountain peaks.

Western Cape: Partly cloudy along the west coast at first, otherwise cloudy and cold with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread over the west and south where heavy rain is possible light snow possible over mountain peaks in the eastern parts of the province.

Eastern Cape: Cloudy and cold with isolated showers, becoming partly cloudy from the north west from the afternoon.


Port Elizabeth: 10 / 17


KwaZulu-Natal: Fog over the interior and very cold in the extreme west with moderate snowfalls over the south-western high grounds,otherwise cloudy and cold but warm in the north-east.
