The Awards Breakfast commemorates the accomplishments of the growing talent in the country as CSA continues to drive its vision of making cricket a truly national sport of winners.

Coca-Cola South Africa under-19s captain, Wiaan Mulder walked away with the big awards of his age group namely, the Coca-Cola U19 Cricketer of the Year, Coca-Cola Schools T20 Cricketer of the Year and Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Cricket Week Player of the Tournament.

Eighteen year-old Mulder, who has been described as modern day, genuine all-rounder scored a total of 428 runs and claimed 22 wickets under the year in review, both internationally and at domestic level.

Mulder said he was honoured to be recognized in such a big way.

He said: “This has definitely been a year of highs and lows for me. From going to the World Cup and not doing so well, to being named the captain of the SA U19 team that recently went to Sri Lanka and now, receiving all these awards. 2016 is a year I will most definitely never forget."

" I am extremely honoured and privileged to be recognized like this and would like to thank everyone who has contributed to making me the player that I am today. To all my coaches and CSA for putting their trust in me, thank you. I can’t wait to get starting with the 2016/2017 season.”

Other major awards were won by Marie Lubbe and former Proteas bowler, Henry Williams, who were named as the KFC Mini-Cricket Coach of the year and Co-ordinator of the year respectively.

Lubbe, an educator at Springvale Primary School, has been part of KFC Mini-Cricket for 15 years and was named the KFC Mini-Cricket Coach of the Year in acknowledgement of the massive part she’s played in not only coaching but also for the passion she has shown as an administrator in the programme.

After receiving her award, Marie said: “Coaching KFC Mini-Cricket is my passion and the beat of my heart. It is part of who I am. I truly love being on the field with the children. What I love about cricket, and especially KFC Mini-Cricket, is its ability to create opportunities for our youth. I love creating opportunities for children to help them make their dreams come true.”

Co-ordinator of the year, Henry Williams, was recognised for his commitment to going the extra mile to grow the programme – currently at a record high level of 114,000 kids.

Henry added: “Winning this award doesn’t mean I have all the answers, I always try to improve myself every season - I’m allergic to complacency, reject routine, habit and sameness.  I aim to continue to assist my fellow coordinators and administrators in as many ways as I can, through my coaching abilities, passion and desire for the game.”

The Awards Breakfast is followed by the 2016 CSA Golf invitational where cricket’s key stakeholders will enjoy a round of golf with the Proteas. Tonight, the cricket family will gather at the Sandton Convention Centre, to pay tribute to the stars of professional cricket at the 2016 SA Cricket Awards Gala Dinner.
