AMVCA 2026 red carpet out shines Met Gala fashion
Fashion from the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards is trending online, after Africa's biggest stars walked the red carpet in jaw dropping looks.
The Met Gala can learn a thing or two from the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA).
The awards ceremony, which was hosted at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria, is presented by MultiChoice.
Africa's biggest stars in television, film, entertainment and digital content creation stepped out onto the red carpet dressed in looks that put the recent Met Gala to shame.
Beyoncé, Rihanna, Tyla, Kim Kardashian, and more attended last week's New York gala in outfits from some of the world's most popular designers.
Many of the looks were described as boring or did not live up to the 'Fashion is Art' dress code.
Attendees at the AMVCA were anything but boring, and their spectacular designs are trending on social media.
The dresses were so good that some social media users thought they were AI pictures.
"The designers at the MET gala must hide their faces NOWWW!!! This is the art we needed to see!" an Instagram user wrote.
South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha and Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma co-hosted the ceremony.
Mbatha wowed in five different looks on the night. Her dresses, which each had its own unique theme, were created by Nigerian fashion designers.
One of her dresses was described as a "striking visual dialogue between predator and prey".
"We drew inspiration from the thermal imprint of the human body as seen through the eyes of a serpent, an abstract heat signature traced across the silhouette in molten tones of ember, sapphire and gold," House of Marvee said.
"Encasing it are iridescent scale formations, crafted to feel almost preserved, as though nature itself had been reimagined into ornament. The result is a striking visual dialogue between predator and prey, strength and vulnerability, man and nature."
