Anne Hathaway, Anna Wintour's iconic 'The Devil Wears Prada' moment
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
Emily, uhm, we mean actress Anne Hathaway and former Vogue editor Anna Wintour had one of the iconic moments at the 2026 Oscars.
Oscar-winner Anne Hathaway returned to the Academy Awards stage for one of the one of its most historic nights.
The ‘Les Misérables’ actress presented an award at the 98th annual ceremony held at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on Sunday, March 15.
She was joined onstage with former Vogue editor Anna Wintour and could not help but recreate a famous scene from her 2006 movie, ‘The Devil Wears Prada’.
Hathaway plays junior assistant Andrea ‘Andy’ Sachs in the film, while Meryl Streep stars as a cold magazine editor named Miranda Priestly.
It has long been believed that Streep’s character is based on Wintour. The character insists on calling her assistants ‘Emily’ as she can’t seem to remember their names.
She is also very critical of their outfit choices. “Anna, uhm, just curious, what do you think of my dress tonight?” Hathaway asked Wintour.
Wintour cheekily ignores the question: “And the nominees are...” In another part of their appearance, the fashion icon says, “Thank you, Emily”.
The audience erupts in laughter.

It’s no coincidence that they were paired together. ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ will debut in cinemas on May 1, 2026. The trailer for the sequel has already dropped.
Hathaway and Wintour might have had the audience laughing, but it was Autumn Durald Arkapaw who had them on their feet.
Demi Moore presented the ‘Sinners’ cinematographer with the ‘Best Cinematography’ award.
She is the first woman in 98 years to win the category. Here’s a look at some of the other winners who made history.
- ‘Golden’ from Netflix’s ‘Kpop Demon Hunters’ movie is the K-pop single to win ‘Best Original Song’.
- Maggie Kanga became the first director of South Korean descent to win ‘Best Animated Feature’.
- The first-ever Oscar for ‘Best Casting’ went to Cassandra Kulukundis for ‘One Battle After Another’
- ‘Hamnet’ star Jessie Buckley is the first Irish actress to win 'Best Actress'.
