Charlize Theron pulls off daring stunt to promote new 'Apex' movie

Tom Cruise, take notes, because this has to be one of the best marketing stunts for a movie.
Hollywood movie star Charlize Theron is celebrating the success of her new Netflix movie, ‘Apex’.
The survival thriller, which debuted on April 24, is the number one film on the streaming platform in 82 countries, including the U.S and South Africa.
‘Apex’ recorded over 38 million global views by the end of its first weekend.
“You made hanging off this cliff so worthwhile. Thank you for making @netflix APEX your number one film,” she wrote on Instagram.
Theron pulled off one of the most daring stunts to promote the film.
The 50-year-old climbed a gigantic billboard in New York’s Times Square.
Onlookers watched in awe as she scaled the rock-like structure while dressed in white nogal.
She did not flinch as she made her way high above the crowd below. When she got to the top, she urged New Yorkers to check out her latest movie.
“Don’t make me climb a wall in Times Square for nothing!”
“The promo worked. I watched the movie. It was insane,” one person commented on a clip shared on Instagram.
Another person added: “I just watched it today. So proud as a fellow ex-South African to see the heights you achieve.”
A third said: “Looks like @charlizeafrica out TomCruised @tomcruise with this."
WARNING: The post below contains strong language.
Apex movie actors
Theron stars in ‘Apex’ alongside Welsh actor Taron Egerton.
She plays a rock climber whose path crosses with a mysterious man in the Australian Wilderness.
The film is jam-packed with action scenes that push Theron to her physical limits.
The star underwent intense training for the role and worked with expert rock climber Beth Rodden.
She calls Rodden “the OG” rock climber.
“Hearing her story and her expertise, I thought, this is the most bad***, best climber you could be with,” Theron said, per Tudum.
Rodden helped Theron prepare for the movie, which was filmed in several parts of Australia, including Blue Mountains National Park.
Her character, Sasha, had to come across as an expert climber.
“It was interesting because I’ve had a lot of martial-arts and fighting training, and most of the action work I’ve done lives in that world, but this was very different,” the Oscar winner said.
“This is about endurance and strength. The technique of climbing is really beautiful because it doesn’t conform to one thing; it’s a real art. You have to make it your own and put in the hours to understand it.”
Theron can add bad*** rock climber to the skills she has learned as Hollywood’s favourite female action hero.
