Chris Hemsworth reflects on "greatest decision" to leave LA

The Australian actor traded in the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles for horses, motorbikes and surf Down Under.

Chris Hemsworth does not regret moving his family back to Australia 12 years ago.

The 42-year-old, who has three children with his wife, Spanish actress Elsa Pataky, moved to Los Angeles for his acting career.

However, they decided to pack up and return Down Under after realising they were not cut out for life in LA.

“It was right around the time my boys were born, and it was just, we kind of were set up in LA and not enjoying it, you know?” the 'Thor' actor said on the 'SmartLess' podcast.

“Like nothing was shooting there. We were filming kind of everywhere else... and then when you’d come home and the paparazzi and all the sort of the trappings of, you know, living in that space.”

The family now live in Byron Bay, New South Wales, where life is very different.

“It's been the greatest decision, because it's like when you come back from work, you wanna go on a holiday? Like coming home for me, it feels like a holiday. We have a big farm and horses and motorbikes and surf.”

Hemsworth adds that he had a similar upbringing with his brothers, Luke and Liam. They lived twenty minutes away from the main suburbs, and the nearest neighbour was 1-2km away.

Liam also moved back to Australia after his divorce from singer Miley Cyrus. The former couple lived in Malibu, California.

The 'Hunger Games' actor is currently engaged to Australian model Gabriella Brooks

Hemsworth was back in the U.S. recently to promote his new movie, 'Crime 101,' which also stars Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry.
