The world première of ‘Fanie Fourie’s Lobola’, a contemporary romantic comedy about love and tradition in a rapidly evolving South Africa, was held at the CineCentre in Killarney, Johannesburg on 13 February.
Commenting at a press junket before the premiere, producers Lance Samuels and Kweku Mandela said that they were incredibly proud of the film. "We set out to make a contemporary love story that reflects our society today," added Samuels.
"In the mix are cultural differences, family politics, a malicious ex-boyfriend and lobola. The film sets out to determine whether love can be enough against the backdrop of all these challenges."
‘Fanie Fourie’s Lobola’ was inspired by the book of the same name, written by Nape à Motana. The film is distributed by Indigenous Film Distribution and releases nationwide on 1 March 2013.
