A new era of Hogwarts is beginning. The first teaser for the new 'Harry Potter' TV series is finally here.
HBO Max has given 'Harry Potter' fans a sneak peek of what they can expect from its new TV series, which is based on J.K. Rowling's popular books.
The streaming giant released the official teaser for 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone' on Wednesday, March 25.
Dominic McLaughlin plays the lead role of Harry Potter, and the teaser shows him back in the cupboard under the stairs. It also shows him being bullied at a Muggle school by his cousin, Dudley, and his friends.
His Aunt Petunia also angrily cuts off his hair before Harry receives a mysterious letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
"You are a normal boy, and you're going to start acting like one," she tells Harry. "You think you're something special. There is nothing special about you."
Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout also feature as Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The lead roles in the big-screen adaptation were played by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson.
The teaser reveals the series' release date, and it is coming sooner than expected. Originally scheduled for early 2027, HBO has announced that 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone will debut this Christmas.
The new cast also includes:
- Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid
- John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore
- Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape
- Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall
- Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom
- Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy
- Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan
According to Variety, the series was filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K.
Showrunner Francesca Gardiner will serve as the head writer while Mark Mylod will executive produce. He will also direct several episodes.
Rumours are floating around that the 'Harry Potter' reboot reportedly cost HBO $1 billion, with over $100 million spent per episode.
TV bosses have not revealed the exact amount spent, only stating that it was a "financial investment that we wouldn't normally make".
Let's hope the "big commitment" pays off!
