Updated | By Jacaranda FM
Connie Ferguson revealed how her role as 'Karabo Moroka' in 'Generations' changed her life from being an actress to becoming a successful businesswoman who founded a multi-million-rand production company.
The character of 'Karabo Moroka', brought to life by Connie Ferguson in the early '90s on the hit show 'Generations', has not only captivated audiences but also served as a beacon of inspiration for young black women aiming for success in the business world.
"At that time in South Africa, we only had two big soapies; which were 'Generations' and 'Egoli'."

Ferguson reflected on this impact during the 2024 MANCOSA Jacaranda FM Business Breakfast in Midrand, sharing how 'Karabo Moroka' reshaped her perception of black women, businesswomen, and families.
"My character, 'Karabo Moroka', was the first person who taught me about business."
Created by Mfundi Vundla, 'Generations' is set against the vibrant backdrop of the advertising industry and centres on the affluent 'Moroka' family. Now rebranded as 'Generations: The Legacy', the show continues to explore the intricate dynamics of this multi-generational family.
For Ferguson, turning 40 was a pivotal moment in her life, prompting her to seek new challenges beyond acting.
"After being in 'Generations' for almost 20 years, I realised I have a bankable name. My name became my brand, my legacy."

This ambition led her to establish 'Ferguson Films', her own production company.
"My late husband and I founded Ferguson Films. To make money as a production company, we had to do something different."
She emphasised the importance of legacy, stating: "Legacy should be how people feel after they have been in your presence."
Despite her business ventures, Ferguson remains a prominent figure on screen.
She recently earned a nomination for Best Actress at the National Film & TV Awards (NFTA) for her role in 'Heart of the Hunter'.
