Jim Carrey's rep responds to clone claims

'The Mask' actor's recent appearance at the César Awards in France has led to claims that the 64-year-old has been cloned.
A publicist for Jim Carrey has quashed claims that a clone version of the actor attended the 2026 César Awards in Paris, France.
Carrey attended the ceremony, the French version of the Oscars, with his daughter, Jane, and her son, Jackson.
Pictures and videos of the 64-year-old chatting to reporters at the event went viral online, with many people saying the 'Dumb and Dumber' star was unrecognisable.
Some even went as far as to suggest that the real actor had been abducted and a clone attended the awards ceremony in his place.
Others also claimed that Carrey signed fans' autographs in Paris with his left hand, even though he is right-handed. Many also claimed his voice was not the same and his eyes were a different colour.
Some said that 'The Mask' actor, who has joked about being cloned in the past, sent an impersonator in his place just for laughs.
Other social media users blamed "bad plastic surgery", while many accused Carry's critics of ageism.
"I feel bad for Jim Carrey. Imagine having aged, and people think you’re a clone or wearing a mask. Makes me sad for us as a society," one X user wrote.
Make-up artist Alexis Stone added fuel to the flames by posting a photo of Carrey from the event on his social media pages.
He is famous for making prosthetic masks of celebrities such as Lana Del Rey, Donatella Versace, Anna Wintour and Meryl Streep as her 'Devil Wears Prada' character, Miranda Priestly.
Stone also attends events dressed up as celebrities. "Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris," he captioned a picture of the actor.
However, Stone appears to be trolling his fans as Carry's rep, and organisers have denied that a clone or impersonator attended the awards ceremony.
"Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation," awards spokesperson Gregory Caulier told Variety.
Carrey's rep also confirmed that he attended and gave a speech. The actor received an Honorary César at the ceremony for his work in film and television. Previous international stars who have been honoured include Julia Roberts, Christopher Nolan, Penelope Cruz, Robert Redford and Cate Blanchett.
Carrey stunned the audience by giving his entire acceptance speech in French.
"He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words,” Caulier continued.
Caulier described the clone talk as a "non-issue". I just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance.”
