Justin Bieber calls for a "safer, more honest" music industry
Updated | By Music Reporter
The 'Baby' singer says he is not speaking out against the industry as a victim still bleeding, but as someone who has been restored.
Justin Bieber wants to see the music industry made new.
The 'Daisies' hitmaker opened up about the dark side of the industry in a series of posts shared on Instagram.
Bieber, who has been outspoken about his struggles with depression and anxiety in the past, says the music industry can be extractive.
"It rewards performance more than wholeness. Image over identity. Output over inner life. That kind of pressure changes a person - and not gently," he wrote.
Earlier this year, the 31-year-old released his first album after a four-year break. 'SWAG' features songs dedicated to his wife, Hailey Bieber, and their son, Jack Blues.
The singer says he grew up in an industry that rewarded his gift but didn't protect his soul.
"There were moments I felt used, rushed, shaped into something I didn't fully choose," he continued. "That kind of pressure leaves wounds you don't see on stage."
He hasn't been on tour since cancelling all the remaining stops of his 'Justice' tour in 2023, and he won't be returning to the stage anytime soon.
He revealed in October that the idea of touring still feels "super daunting".
"I think I always start out really loving it and then I get super burnt out. I think at this point in my life, I really wanna do spot dates where I pick maybe a city and do a couple of shows and not commit to a whole, like, two-year run," he said during a livestream.
Bieber admits in his recent Instagram post that he felt angry about his situation, but turned to his faith to heal his wounds.
"Jesus keeps meeting me in the middle of the pain." He is calling for changes in the music industry.
"I don't want to burn the music industry down. I want to see it made new - safer, more honest, more human. Healing doesn't make me silent. It makes me free to tell my truth without hatred."
Several musicians, including South African rapper Cassper Nyovest, showed Bieber some love in the comments section.
He might not be going on tour in the near future, but Bieber will be taking to the stage at Coachella 2026 in April. He is the Saturday headliner of the festival.
Sabrina Carpenter takes centre stage on Friday, while Karol G will headline the Sunday shows.
