Katy Perry teases new single 'Watch it Burn'
The singer says she is "wrestling with my darkness" in her new song ‘Watch It Burn’.
Katy Perry has shared a short preview of her new song called 'Watch it Burn,' and fans already like what they hear.
"You know I gave and I gave/ Now I'm giving up/ There's nothing more you can take/ No, I don't want to cause a scene/ But give me the gasoline," she sings.
The 41-year-old adds in another part of the song: "Tonight's the night, I light a match/ Throw it hard behind my back/ Gonna try to forgive and forget/ Light a cigarette, and watch it burn."
The teaser, shared on social media, shows the singer standing in what appears to be a rage room, also known as a smash room or an anger room.
She is holding a baseball bat and looks ready to strike the piñata behind her.
Rage rooms, which gained popularity in the late 2010s, are the perfect place to release your anger.
Participants strike various objects in the rooms, often while screaming their lungs out.
It's unclear whether 'Watch it Burn' is a standalone single or will feature on her eighth studio album, which she is rumoured to be working on.
Perry explains the meaning behind the single in an upcoming episode of the 'Unfamous' podcast with Justin Tranter.
"In ‘Watch It Burn’, I am wrestling with my darkness, but last year was pretty tough," she said in a clip shared online.
In 2025, Perry and her long-term partner, actor Orlando Bloom, called it quits after nearly ten years together. The former couple has a five-year-old daughter together, Daisy Dove Bloom.
The 'Firework' singer has since moved on with Canadian politician Justin Trudeau.
"I have not given myself permission to be angry my whole life over things where I should be f***ing angry about," she continued on 'Unfamous'.
"What I’ve done is I pushed it down, but I should be f***ing angry. I’m allowed to be angry for a f***ing moment. So instead of falling into woe is me, I just was like, ‘Okay, let’s just feel this f***ing pain,’ let’s feel this pain, let’s feel this anger and let’s move on, let’s learn from it also."
Perry's 'Watch it Burn' preview comes days after her iconic performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in Los Angeles.
She performed 'Wonder' with 10-year-old Norwegian singer Tius Luka. South African singer Tyla also performed at the opening ceremony.
The 24-year-old joined American rapper Future onstage to perform their World Cup song 'Game Time'.
Perry's single, 'Watch it Burn', will debut on June 26.
