'Kpop Demon Hunters' song 'Golden' makes chart history
Netflix's fictional girl group just scored a No.1 hit song.
A song from the animated Netflix movie, 'Kpop Demon Hunters', has knocked Alex Warren's 'Ordinary' off the top spot.
'Golden', performed by the film's fictional girl group Huntr/x, is the new number one song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
While some people believe the music in the film was created using AI, real musicians provided the singing voices for the characters, Rumi, Mira, and Zoey.
EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and REI AMI recorded 'Golden' for the soundtrack, which consists of 12 tracks.
Huntr/x is the first girl group since Destiny's Child to reach #1 on the chart. Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams' single, 'Bootylicious', achieved the feat in 2001.
Huntr/x is the first K-pop group in Billboard history to reach number one. South Korean singer ROSÉ, who is also a member of the group Blackpink, has a top 10 hit on the chart.
Her collaboration with Bruno Mars, 'APT.', peaked at #3.
According to Billboard, 'Golden' "is also the first IRL Hot 100 No. 1 by any act with a fictional background since the ensemble No. 1 'We Don’t Talk About Bruno,' which reigned for five weeks in February-March 2022."
'We Don't Talk About Bruno' is a song from the animated Disney movie, 'Enanto'.
Chappel Roan's new single, 'The Subway', is also making moves on the Hot 100. It debuted at #3 on the chart.
There aren't any 'Kpop Demon Hunter' songs on the Top 40 with Danny Painter, but Roan's 'Hot to Go!', which was released in August 2023, is currently at #39.
We wouldn't be surprised if 'The Subway', which debuted on July 31, makes an appearance on the chart in the coming weeks.
Sabrina Carpenter's 'Manchild' rules the Top 40, followed by Benson Boone's 'Mythical Magic' at #2.
