Miley Cyrus: Mom wanted me to stay with the wrong guy
Moms usually have the best advice, but Miley Cyrus might have to think twice before taking her mother's relationship tips.
The latest issue of The Cut is a family affair, with Miley Cyrus appearing alongside some of the other women in her family.
She sat down for a joint interview and cover with her sisters, Brandi and Noah, and their mother, Tish Cyrus-Purcell.
The family experienced a rough patch in recent years, with the rumour mill churning out shocking stories, including tales of sibling rivalries and a love triangle involving mother and daughter.
The Cyrus women are back together again and sharing some of their best memories.
During the interview, Miley, who is currently dating drummer Maxx Morando, reveals that her mom is not the best at giving relationship tips.
"Mom’s always wanted me to stay with the wrong guy ’cause they’re hot," the 'Flowers' singer said.
Miley didn't specify which guy or guys she was referring to. She was married to Australian hunk Liam Hemsworth and has dated Nick Jonas and Cody Simpson.
Tish didn't feel too bad about the advice she gave her daughter.
"Well, that was great advice because after so many years, you’re kind of over it and you’re like — in a relationship. At least you get to look at somebody that’s frigging hot!"
Miley says there is more to relationships than looks.
"No, I ended up with a person who means a lot to me and treats me really well and respects me. I had to learn that the hard way because my mommy taught me the wrong way and then I had to learn the right way by myself," she said about Morando.

Noah, who is engaged to fashion designer Pinkus, feels like she was in the same boat as Miley regarding Tish's bad advice.
Brandi points out that her partner, Matt Southcombe, is "hot as hell".
Miley notes that her man is also handsome, but she wasn't letting her mother off the hook easily.
"I had to find someone who treats me with respect and then Mom never really put that on the top three of her must-haves. Mom was like, They need to be tall... My man’s hot as hell too. But my man also respects me."
However, it seems Tish has evolved since her bad-dating-advice-giving days, and Miley thinks it has a lot to do with her husband, 'Prison Break' star Dominic Purcell.
"She found someone that is hot and respects her. That’s always the goal."
Tish was previously married to country singer Billy Ray Cyrus. They divorced in 2022. She married Purcell in 2023.
