Prince William's shocking yearly salary revealed
Updated | By Entertainment Reporter
The future king of England has been paid a princely sum since inheriting the Duke of Cornwall title.
Being the next in line to the throne comes with a big paycheck. Prince William's annual salary was revealed, and it amounts to millions.
The Duchy of Cornwall estate paid the prince £22.9 million ($30 million) during the 2024-2025 financial year. The figure was revealed in the estate's Integrated Annual Report.
When King Charles ascended to the throne in 2022, Prince William inherited several titles, including the Duke of Cornwall.
According to People, the Duchy of Cornwall covers Prince William's official, charitable, and private expenses.
The money also covers expenses for his wife, Princess Catherine, and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
King Edward III established the Duchy, which is a private fund, in 1337 to "provide independence to his son and heir".
It is reportedly worth over $1 billion, and generates an income from its "arable and livestock farms, residential and commercial properties", and other initiatives.
While the estate is not a corporation and therefore does not pay Corporation tax, Prince William pays income tax.
"The Prince of Wales pays income tax including on his income from the Duchy of Cornwall. This is not a requirement but something His Royal Highness chooses to do voluntarily," the Duchy states on its website.
When King Charles was the Duke of Cornwall, he used some of his salary to cover the expenses of Prince William and his younger brother, Prince Harry.
According to the BBC, King Charles used his earnings to pay 95% of Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle's, annual salary when they were working royal. The Sovereign Grant covered the remaining 5%.
Prince William's eldest son, Prince George, is next in line to inherit the Duchy of Cornwall.
