Pussycat Dolls cancel American tour amid weak ticket sales

The girl group's reunion tour, featuring just three members, has been scrapped in the US and Canada after an "honest look at the North American run".

The Pussycat Dolls shared some bad news with fans this week.

The US girl group has decided to cancel the North American leg of their reunion tour, 'PCD Forever'.

Nicole Scherzinger, Ashley Roberts and Kimberly Wyatt were set to kick off the tour in June.

"When we announced the PCD FOREVER Tour, we hoped to bring the show to fans across the world," the group said in a statement.

"After taking an honest look at the North American run, we’ve made the difficult and heartbreaking decision to cancel all but one of the North America dates."

Their June 6 WeHo Pride concert in West Hollywood is now the only US show on the tour. Despite the hiccup, the European leg of the tour, which begins in Denmark in September, will go on as planned.

A total of 20 shows are planned for Europe.

"Our UK and European dates are still moving forward as planned, and the response has been incredible, with several shows already sold out," Scherzinger, Roberts and Wyatt said.

"We are putting everything into making this show a true celebration of the music and the memories, for the fans who have been with us from the beginning and those discovering us for the first time.

"We’re working hard to create the kind of show we’ve always dreamed of bringing to you. We cannot wait to bring this reunion to Europe and make these nights unforgettable."

Poor ticket sales

The Pussycat Dolls did not give a specific reason for the cancellation, but poor ticket sales are reportedly to blame.

Recent reports suggested that the group was struggling to fill many of the venues, with Variety calling it a "poor-selling reunion tour".

"As a day-one OG #pcd fan, this is honestly heartbreaking," one fan wrote on Instagram.

"I’m really disappointed in the management team for thinking they could pull off giant arenas with prices like the Taylor Swift Eras Tour."

Another fan blamed poor marketing: "You need to make a better promotion. Where are the shows of promotions, music videos, new songs?"

The Pussycat Dolls are not the only well-known artists to cancel their American tour. Zayn Malik recently cancelled the US leg of the 'KONNAKOL Tour' due to poor health.

His international dates will continue.

Meghan Trainor cancelled her entire 'Get it Girl' tour in April "after a lot of reflection.

The Pussycat Dolls released a new single, 'Club Song', in March to promote their upcoming tour.

While the song peaked at #10 in the UK, it did not crack the Billboard Hot 100 in America.

Some fans questioned whether they would make it as a trio. Former members included Melody Thornton, Jessica Sutta and Carmit Bachar.

Bachar has previously stated that she "was not contacted" about the reunion tour, while Sutta said she "was never planning to return".

When asked about the rest of the group, the remaining trio said: "We've gotta protect our peace".

"When something like The Pussycat Dolls has history, we have ruptured in the past and right now we are repairing and we’re sort of on the same page with that," Wyatt said on '3rd Hour of Today', per People.

Scherzinger added: "But what I wanted to say is, we have so much love and respect for all of the women that have been elite Pussy legacy and once a Doll, always a Doll."

The Pussycat Dolls are known for hits such as 'Buttons', 'When I Grow Up', 'Stickwitu' and 'Don't Cha'.
