Is Shakira about to give us the next World Cup anthem?

Football and music fans believe that Shakira is cooking up another World Cup song.
The official 2026 FIFA World Cup song is yet to be unveiled, but fans think they have a pretty good idea which artist will get the gig.
They are crossing fingers that Colombian singer Shakira will return to sing the biggest sports anthem.
The singer took a brief break in December to spend time with her family, including sons Milan Piqué Mebarak and Sasha Piqué Mebarak, during the festive season.
She recently returned to the music scene, hinting that she was working on a special song with Latin music producer Alex ‘AC’ Castillo.
She shared a video of herself with a preview of a new song they're working on. According to social media users, it’s giving Soccer World Cup anthem vibes.
“Hopefully, something for FIFA 2026. We Love You For The World,” one Instagram user commented.
Shakira did not respond to the rumours. The 48-year-old has a strong track record in World Cup songs.
In 2010, she released ‘Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)’ as the official anthem for the World Cup in South Africa.
Local band Freshlyground featured on the song. Sixteen years later, football fans still rate it as the best World Cup song ever made.
The track’s music video has over four billion views on YouTube. “January 2026, anyone?” a YouTuber commented.
“If Shakira isn’t going to sing at the next World Cup, I’m throwing hands,” another person wrote.
Nearly two decades after the song, which has over a billion streams on Spotify, was released, Shakira is still one of the most sought-after musicians in the world.
Her latest single, ‘Zoo’, is a global it. It was recorded for the 'Zootopia 2' soundtrack.
The singer’s ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour’ was one of the biggest tours of 2025, grossing an impressive $327 million.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off in June, will be hosted in America, Canada and Mexico.
South Africa will take on Mexico in the tournament’s opening match on 11 June 2026.
