Sia's ex-husband seeks R4-million monthly spousal support
Daniel Bernad says he was financially dependent on Sia, who provided him with a "luxurious and upper-class lifestyle".
The divorce of Australian singer Sia and her estranged husband, Daniel 'Dan' Bernad, just got messy.
According to several reports, the former radiation oncologist has asked a court to grant him $250 000 (R4,3 million) temporary spousal support to maintain his lifestyle
Sia married Bernad in 2023 at a posh Portofino villa in Italy, which is owned by fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker also held their 2022 wedding at the venue.
Sia filed for divorce in March 2025, citing "irreconcilable differences." The 'Chandlier' singer requested custody of their son, Somersault Wonder.
She also has two older sons, whom she adopted when they were 18.
In new court documents, Bernad tells the judge he was financially dependent on the singer after quitting his job as a physician in 2021. His medical licence has since expired.
If he wants to practice radiation oncology again, he allegedly will need to complete "several years of training" and "pass several rigorous exams" to renew his certification.
Bernad opened a ketamine treatment clinic with his wife, but she has apparently stopped funding their company, Modern Medicine, after filing for divorce.
Bernad says he no longer collects a salary from the company and has no source of income.
The family's monthly expenses were an eye-watering $400,000 (R6,9 million). It included vacations and private jets.
According to the BBC, he wrote in his filing: "We never needed to monitor our living expenses."
Bernad also asked that Sia, who he noted was the family's breadwinner, pay $300,000 (R5,1 million) for his legal fees and $200,000 (R3,4 million) for forensic accounting.
