South Africa scores record-breaking iEmmy Award nominations
'Chasing the Sun 2', a documentary about the Springboks' road to 2023 Rugby World Cup glory, is nominated for 'Best Sports Documentary'.
South Africa has earned a record-breaking five nominations for the 2025 International Emmy® Awards.
It is the most nominations an African country has received in a year. SA has the third-most nominations for this year's ceremony, behind Brazil and the United Kingdom.
MultiChoice has been nominated for a fourth consecutive year. Its titles are recognised in four categories.
SuperSport's 'Chasing the Sun 2' is a nominee for 'Best Sports Documentary'.
The five-part documentary, which chronicles the Springboks' 2023 Rugby World Cup win, will compete against documentaries from Argentina, Spain, and the UK.
Showmax's Afrikaans crime drama, 'Koek', and M-Net's 'School Ties' documentary are also up for awards.

Charlotte Hope has been nominated for 'Best Performance by an Actress' for her role in Showmax's 'Catch Me a Killer'.
"Really can’t believe this, thank you @iemmys for this delightful nomination for a show that I am immensely proud of #catchmeakiller @nighttrainmedia @showmaxonline @britboxtv @uandalibi," Hope wrote on Instagram.
South Africa earned a fifth nomination in the 'Kids: Factual & Entertainment' category for 'Play Room Live'.
"We are incredibly proud of our content teams and producing partners, whose creativity, passion, and commitment have earned MultiChoice a record four International Emmy nominations,” MultiChoice's Nomsa Philiso said in a statement.
“These nominations mark a significant milestone for our industry – a moment where local stories, crafted with care and cultural depth, are being recognised on a global stage like never before.”

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has recognised 26 countries in 16 categories.
“As the International Emmys® continue to recognize the very best in television, the creativity and caliber of this year’s Nominees, from a record 26 countries, reflect the global strength of our industry,” the International Academy 's president and CEO Bruce L. Paisner said.
The winners will be unveiled at a gala in New York City on November 24.
