Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift might be living the life of a showgirl, but that doesn't guarantee her a U.S. trademark.

The 36-year-old's attempt to trademark the title of her ninth studio album, 'The Life of a Showgirl', which was released in October 2025, is facing a setback.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office has paused the application while it investigates two previously filed trademarks with similar phrases or words: 'Confessions of a Showgirl' and 'Showgirl'.

  4. '...Ready for It?': The lyrics of her 2017 song of the same name
  5. 'Look What You Made Me Do': 2017 Lyrics and song name.
  6. '1989': Album title
  7. 'Shake it Off': Song title and lyrics
  8. A Girl Named Girl: (Rumoured unreleased novel)
  9. And I'll Write Your Name: 'Blank Space' song lyrics
Trademarks are popular in the entertainment industry, and many musicians and actors often branch off into business.

Other stars who have filed trademarks include Kylie Jenner, who tried to get exclusive rights to the phrase, 'rise and shine' and 'riiise and shiiinee' for use in cosmetics, apparel and accessories.

She became associated with the phrase when a video of herself singing "rise and shine" to her daughter Stormi went viral in 2019. The hashtag #riseandshine reached over one billion views shortly after.

The application was denied as it was considered a "common phrase". Canadian rapper Drake also tried to trademark 'God's Plan', which is the title of his
