Tyla bags another major international award
The Johannesburg singer walked the red carpet at the 57th annual NAACP Image Awards alongside stars such as Oscar winner Viola Davis.
'Water' hitmaker Tyla has scooped a major award at the 2026 NAACP Image Awards.
The South African musician won 'Outstanding International Song' for 'Is It', released in July 2025. She was announced as the winner in the category a few days before the main ceremony on Saturday, February 28
Tyla walked the red carpet in a black Jean Paul Gaultier dress accessorised with Christian Louboutin heels and a diamond choker. Vogue named her look one of the best outfits on the night.
She featured in the magazine's best-dressed list alongside stars such as 'Sinners' actress Wunmi Mosaku, Chase Infiniti, Teyana Taylor, Viola Davis, and Quinta Brunson.
Wicked' star Cynthia Erivo was also among the winners. She won 'Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture', beating the likes of Kerry Washington, Tessa Thompson, Keke Palmer and Danielle Deadwyler.
The 'Sinners' cast, including Michael B. Jordan, took home major awards. Jordan also won 'Entertainer of the Year' while Ryan Coogler took home 'Outstanding Directing' and 'Outstanding Writing in a Motion Picture'.
This is Tyla's second major award of the year. Earlier this year, she won 'Best African Music Performance' at the 2026 Grammys. It is her second win in the category.
The 24-year-old made a major announcement at the awards ceremony. She revealed that her new album will be called 'A-POP'.
"It's going to be very different. It's a new Tyla - not really a new Tyla, just me now. I just grew up. I was 21, 22, now I'm 24. I feel like a woman. I have other things to say. I have other vibes that I want to give... I'm so excited," she said.
Other local stars who have won NAACP awards include South African comedian Trevor Noah, who was recognised for his book, 'Born a Crime' and his work on 'The Daily Show'.
